Inauguration of the new academic course of the Official Master’s Degree in School Librarianship and Reading Promotion
On September 9, we inaugurated the eighteenth edition of the Master’s Degree in School Libraries and the Promotion of Reading (2026–27 academic year). The event started with the official speeches by Dr. Núria Ferrán, Dean of the Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media at the UB, and Dr. Marta Bertrán, Dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences at the UAB. The opening lecture was delivered by Marta Roig, Technical Secretary of IBBYcat / Catalan Council for Children’s and Young Adult Books), and was titled “La feina d’ordir: una reflexió sobre la mediació lectora en la literatura infantil i juvenil” (The Work of Weaving: A Reflection on Reading Mediation in Children’s and Young Adult Literature).
Due to the activation of Catalonia’s Special Emergency Plan for Floods (INUNCAT), the inauguration had to be held online. We took this opportunity to compile—together with all the attendees—a list of reading recommendations related to rain, floods, and inclement weather, which you can view here.
The Master’s Degree in School Librarianship and Reading Promotion is interuniversity (UAB/UB) and trains in knowledge and skills around children’s and young adult books, school library management and strategies for promoting reading in a wide range of educational and social contexts, with an interdisciplinary, creative and culturally aware perspective. It is jointly coordinated by Dr. Cristina Aliagas (UAB) and Dr. Júlia Baena (UB).
